Just months after it laid off most of its staff, mid-sized publishing house Key Porter has shut its doors, according to a report in the Toronto Star, citing author Mark Bourrie as a source. According to the Star, Bourrie was informed this afternoon by Harold Fenn, head of H.B. Fenn, the publishing company that bought controlling interest in Key Porter in 2004, that the publishing house had ceased operations.
The reports follow a post earlier this afternoon on Canadian literature blog Quill & Quire that Key Porter had laid off its sole editorial staffer, editor-in-chief Linda Pruessen, and had suspended publishing.
Updates on this story as they become available. In the meantime, read Mark Medley’s feature on the beleaguered publisher, which ran in Sept. 2010.
